2024I once asked myself what my favorite sound was. I realized that I was fascinated by the sound of a train driving over the tracks, it is so rhythmic and spatial. Especially in the dead of night, the sound of a train moving from far to near and back again, seems can take me away from the routine, to an unknown new place. I wanted to capture the sound of trains at night, and capture my feelings about it.
This inspired me to create a sound piece in Ableton about the night train. To me, the night train is more than a vehicle; it symbolizes the closing of a day, a passage through life, or a step into the mysterious unknown.I use recordings of train sounds and change them with effects like distortion, echo, reverberation to make the sound feel more dreamlike. In the end, the sound will fade out, creating a sense of disappearing into darkness.
The piece will be shown in an immersive space, with a train video I filmed, letting the audience experience this journey through sound and image.
